As many already know, this Sunday, August 30 my family will be hosting an alternative wedding shower for Mike and I. It is “alternative” because unlike many couples-to-wed out there, we aren’t asking our friends and family to buy us a kitchen upgrade or a bunch of other crap we don’t need. Instead we thought that some kids across the pond could benefit from generosity that would otherwise be directed toward us.
I know members of my family and others within my circle of friends have asked (nay almost insisted) that we must need SOMETHING. In an ironic turn of events, the other day (more like a month ago) I discovered that I actually only have one teaspoon left in my cutlery collection. So I guess I could use a few more. But truthfully, there is no greater need than HEALTH.
I look at it this way: If others can ask blood relations and kindred spirits for fine china and bedding linens (within the context of completely acceptable social norms) then I can ask those same folks for something I value. And together sharing in that generosity, hope and conviction makes me happy.
Joyful, actually. Thank you for the joy.
i do it for the joy it brings because i’m a joyful girl
because the world owes me nothing and we owe each other the world
i do it because it’s the least i can do. i do it because i learned it from you
and i do it just because i want to…because i want to
